How far are you willing to go to achieve fame and success? Will you be ready to hurt someone on your way to success? Is fame and success something that you would ruin someones life for? these are the questions that will come to your mind when you watch the 1950 film "All About Eve". This is a story of Eve, a young widow who is trying to break into Broadway and Margo Channing a fading star of Broadway towards her end of her carrier. On a casual talk with Margo, Eve will tell her that she is a huge fan of hers and will convince her to take her as an assistant after telling a sad story. But, Margo doesn't know that this innocent looking young girl is going to turn her life into a mess.
The reality and the effects of fame is portrayed here. The director Joseph L. Mankiewicz took real care while depicting character that were all inspired after real life. The Broadway which was very popular and is us usually remembered for its stardust, has a lot of dirty secrets of its own. The movie shows what some people are read to do to get what they want.
There are two main characters in this film, both the characters only want one thing and that is fame. But, both of them want it in a different way. Margo wants to preserve her fame that has been fading at the end of her carrier, whereas Eve wants to get into fame by starting her carrier. And Eve is slowly learning about the trade by being Margo's assistant and soon she will try to steal Margo's life from her.
Eve who is the villain in the movie is a very interesting character. She doesn't look, talk or behave like a bad person. But, as the story unfolds the people around her will discover her true colors. She herself doesn't show it. This is actually makes everyone scratch their heads.
I recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in learning a bit of history of show biz and also some thing new to look at. Thank you for reading this post for more posts and reviews on movies follow me. Cheers!
