During late 40s and 50s very interesting films based on the stories that happen in the Hollywood came to light. Movies like "Sunset Boulevard" was like a fresh breath of air to the audience. A faded silent film actress Norma Desmond wants to comeback to the screen. Just at the right movement a broke screen writer Joe Gillis comes inside her mansion as a way to escape from the people who he owed money. Joe will be caught and when Norma hears that he is a screenwriter Norma will hire him as a script doctor to write her screenplay to get her a comeback.
Movies like this shows us the harsh realities the celebrities go through in their life. Even though they have everything in their life, they are usually sad and depressed. This one of the film which talks about this topic. The most amazing thing for an actor is when people recognizes him and the most horrible thing is that when people forgets him. This will lead to mental break down and the character Norma Desmond expresses these feeling perfectly.
The want for fame can destroy anyone, it can make a man do anything regardless of it is right or wrong. We see people all the time on social media trying to get attention. The want for fame and recognition will push her to take extreme actions. She will completely destroy Joe's personal life and makes him write.
The director Billy Wilder tried to show most of the Hollywood's dirty secrets through this film. The way a screenwriter struggles, Joe's character is based on the things he saw during his struggle in Hollywood. Billy Wilder was back in the days know for film noir movies like "Double Indemnity" paved a way to this style of film making. The mood of pessimism used is great for crime films and thrillers, but "Sunset Boulevard" is not exactly a crime film. The crime is just a small part of it, but using the style of film noir he was able visualize a story which no one can expect.
