This week the movie "The Disaster Artist" got released, which is a biopic on Tommy Wiseau. Back in 2003 Tommy was made "The Room". He personally funded it and it is considered as one of the best worst films ever made. Sadly, in India "The Disaster Artist" hasn't yet been released and I am waiting for it. I watched "The Room" trying to prepare myself to watch "The Disaster Artist". The movie is bad, but there is some magic in it that makes the audience watch it again and there is literally a cult following towards this film. And this film gets released every year and theaters are always packed. This is really a rare phenomenon.
"The Room" is a movie about the life of Johnny who has a very promiscuous wife who cheats on him. Tommy wanted to make a film that is a tragedy and tear the audience into pieces, but turns out that this is actually a funny film. When I was watching it I couldn't stop myself from laughing and I am still laughing while typing this post remembering a few of the scenes. Its one of those rare pieces of art that became accidental sensations.
One of the most important thing I noticed about "The Room" is that the story line of the film is actually pretty good. The story is engaging, but where the movie gets it wrong is the dialogues and acting and also the cinematography. Tommy is struggling to act in this film. You can make it out just by looking at him act.
Tommy himself wrote, produced and directed this film after the frustration of getting rejected by everyone in Hollywood. What makes this film funny, is the fact that the characters in this film doesn't exist in real life. The characters of this film behave really in a different way which is really funny. And Tommy's character Johnny is also someone who behaves like an alien. Its almost like this film is taking place in an other alternative planet where people behave differently.
The movie is like a drug, you will want to watch again and again. Its crazy, I promise you if you watch it once, you will definitely watch it again and even tell your friends to watch it. Tommy is a dreamer, he always wanted to make it big in Hollywood. He might not be a good artist, but it as though feels like the universe saw his struggle and made him a cult hero.
This is kind of a movie that I know its bad, but I really would want to watch it again. I am really confused about, if I want to recommend all of you to watch this film or not.
