The Mystery Inc. gang is back in Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed! Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred respectively and they still do a great job embodying the characters. They are joined this time out by the late Peter Boyle, Seth Green and Alicia Silverstone as the gang is befuddled and embarrassed by a bad guy who steals the costumes of all their old cases and unleashes the monsters on Coolsville.
This one's got some highs and lows, the animation is still hit and miss but it actually works for the very cartoony world that is created here. The homages to the original cartoon are great, the performances are a lot of fun. Neil Fanning is the voice of Scooby, Cardellini as Velma is hilarious as she tries to maneuver through a completely unnecessary subplot. Lillard is great as Shaggy which is weird because I don't generally care for his work.
On the downside, it doesn't flow as well as the first one, even though it is better overall than the first one. Why does Scooby have a dance number?
It's fun and funny. Worth a watch for those of us that remember the original cartoon fondly. It sort of parodies the cartoon while showing love to it as well.
