It was one of times in my life where everything I was doing was turning into a failure. I had written a script for a short film and I needed funding to shoot it. I called many producers and also asked my friends if they could help me with it. But, no one agreed. And the important thing is I had no experience. The script I had written was about a crime and crime is not a bankable genre here in India.
Finally after a lot of rejection, one person agreed to listen to the script. I went and read the script, he agreed to produce it. I thought it was great, but soon I realized he wasn’t going to let me direct it. He thought I was still a noob.
After getting frustrated, I went back home. Home was almost 300 kilometres away, it was a sad journey. After few days one of my friends asked me, why can’t u make a short film that didn’t need any money? Eureka! It hit me. I was back on track.
I took a challenge to write, shoot and edit a short film in less than 24 hours. It was quite difficult, we only used the things we had to make the film and it didn’t cost us anything. A few bucks were spent on fuel and that’s it. The end result was not bad. There was a slight glitch here and there, but it was fine. In the end we had a comedy / mystery film with a run time of 17 mins. It was a very good exercise to do; it really helped me do my future projects with easy. It thought me to be spontaneous.
The video below is the original edited footage made in less than 24 hours. But, I have added background scores which was added later to make it more effective. Enjoy!
