I don't know if it actually qualifies for the title of "so bad it's good" because it really appears as though that was not the intention of director Rolfe Kanefsky (who i have never heard of.)
The story isn't terribly imaginative as it involves a pretty well-trodden plot path of a couple buying a house that has some sort of haunted something-or-other in it. The film starts out by showing the previous inhabitants dealing with the spectre and that all ends pretty quickly. It was ok I guess although the stereotypical unnecessary sexuality and nudity-in-a-horror-film happening almost immediately, kind of caught me off guard and I needed to turn down the volume because my neighbors were outside and I didn't want them getting the wrong idea about what I was up to :P
plenty of moaning and screaming in the first 10 minutes
The acting is pretty bad in this movie and as far as low-budget horror films are concerned I suppose that is pretty much "par for the course." The furnace mechanic in the basement is a particularly bad actor and even if you don't watch this whole film (and i suggest you dont!) you should have a look at this scene because I can't believe this guy had lines in the movie.
The plot summary starts like this "PAUL and JENNIFER HEMDALE have just moved into their dream house." and the funny thing about this is the fact that the house is NOT nice. Dream house? These people have very low standards as far as dreams are concerned.
They seem to not be at all fussed about how they were not given the keys to a room in the basement. It seems to me that anyone who purchases a house would probably be interested in knowing about all the rooms. Maybe Paul and Jennifer's idea of a "dream house" involves having a bit of mystery in their day-to-day life. Well, they certainly got some of that.
This film has a lot of nudity in it. This tactic was used quite heavily in the 80's before everyone could use the interwebs to see boobies any time they felt like it and to be honest the tactic doesn't really work today. After watching this film I can't tell if this is meant to be a horror film or a comedy. Unfortunately I think it was meant to be a horror film and accidentally became funny. The only real horror in this movie is that it is horribly bad. I suppose I can give it a few points simply because it is amusing at times but honestly it is not remotely scary.
