I want to try a fun little experiment over the weekend and see how it goes. I'm going to give away $3 worth of USDC using FIO Requests to some of my online friends. I get to have some fun and my friends get to learn about FIO hands on. If you're not familiar with what FIO is, you can learn more here.
Here's the criteria:
- As of this post (I want to start with people I might actually know), you and I have to mutually follow each other on at least one of these platforms:
- You have to already have your own FIO Address or at least $2 in cryptocurrency you're willing to spend for a FIO Address using USDC, BTC, BCH, ETH, or LTC.
Here's the deal:
- Though multiple wallets are rolling out FIO support (Scatter, Trust, Guarda), we'll focus on Edge Wallet here (though you can use Scatter also). Download and install either iOS or Android: https://edge.app/
- Add the USDC token.
- Send a few bucks worth of USDC, BTC, BCH, ETH, or LTC to your Edge Wallet so you can pay for your FIO Address (at least $2 plus extra for blockchain fees). You can also buy cryptocurrency directly in the Edge wallet, but the fees will be a bit higher than if you get them from someplace like Coinbase.
- Register a FIO Address:
- Select FIO Address in the top right pull down menu (screen shots: https://kb.fioprotocol.io/user-guides/edge-wallet/fio-address-registration).
- Select Register New FIO Address, choose the FIO name at edge you want, and pay $2 for it in USDC, BTC, BCH, ETH, or LTC.
- Wait a few minutes for the FIO Address payment to be confirmed (delay is for payment confirmation, not from the FIO blockchain).
- Go back to FIO Address menu and see if your FIO Address is now displayed (if not, wait a few more minutes).
- Click on your FIO Address and then on Connect Wallets and choose which tokens you want to associate with your FIO Address. Make sure to select USDC as well.
- Click on your USDC wallet
- Click Request
- Click FIO Request on the bottom left
- Enter 3, then click next
- Put in
luke@edgefor the FIO Address - In the Memo field put in the platform we are friends on along with your user name like so:
twitter:lukestokesbut use your Twitter username, not mine. If we follow each other here on Hive, for example, you'd put inhive:<your user name>. Same withfacebook:<your user name>. If you're not sure of your facebook user name, click on home and use the value after the facebook.com domain. - Click Done, next.
That's it! Over the weekend, I'll be checking my FIO Requests and if you fit the criteria, at my discretion, I may approve your request and send you 3 USDC. If you want, go ahead and reply to this post or reply on Twitter or Facebook to let me know you sent a request. Keep an eye on this post as I may stop the giveaway at any time.
I haven't yet decided how much I'll give away. I may do a handful or I may do more. The on-chain FIO fees for registering a FIO address are paid for by the foundation, but the $2 you spend does go to help the Cayman nonprofit (it doesn't go to me, and I'm using my own money for this giveaway).
So yeah, if you and I are social media friends, and you want to try out some cool new blockchain technology, let's do this! If you don't yet have any cryptocurrency, it's easy enough to get some from sites like Coinbase.
Again, keep in mind, this is only for people who I already follow and who follow me.
Also, let me know what you think of the whole experience in the comments. I'd like to know!
Thanks and let's have some fun.
Also, if you're interested, I did a BitAngels presentation recently about FIO:
