As much as everyone had hoped the rainy season had started, well we got something completely different.
A heatwave for the last 4 or 5 days and the wind is blowing strongly from the west.
That means it has traveled over most of the interior of Southern Africa before it gets to us and its baking hot.
The last two days have been temperatures of between 37 and 40 degrees centigrade. That means we are getting the full force of the hot air derived over the Kalahari desert coming in on those winds.
It has just made the fires so much worse.
The air is so hot the smoke from the fires is not even going up anymore but just creating a haze.
