What is it like to experience a power outage?
The power went out about 40 minutes ago due to thunder storm and I am testing my Battery Backup for the first time. It is running the router and cable modem. The model I am using is the APC Back-UPS BE750G which claims up to 70 minutes of backup time. (It ended up lasting exactly an hour and kept beeping loudly all the time, terrible design!)
It was however a great investment you can find them at the thrift shop for 15 dollars, I need to get more for the laptops and cell phones! Bigger ones! I am really prepping hard for an extended power outage because it is a real threat. From our very insecure grid that is fully connected to the internet to the threat of Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) it never hurts to have extra lanterns, fuel, batteries, cell phones, laptops, generators, candles and ice for food coolers! During a possible Extinction Level Event when the asteroid is coming towards Earth do you really want to be without power?
SO WHY ARE WE STILL EXPERIENCING POWER OUTAGES IN 2017
This is the event I am spending my free time preparing for. The ultimate electrical outage which could last for months. The food in the stores will go bad quickly.. and the food in people's freezers. I will build a food truck with all type of food processing equipment to save as much food as possible in the couple days before everybody's food spoils. If there were a few people like me in every city we could prevent 10s of millions of dollars of waste. There is obviously a conspiracy at play here why the electrical grid is so obsolete in this age of technology we live in. The power outage I just experienced lasted 6 and a half hours and helped me to realize what a fragile system we live in!
BUT WHY CAN'T I FINISH MAKING MY SMOOTHIE
What did I learn as a prepper during his last power outage? Here are a list of supplies you should have close by. Extra lantern wick and fuel, lots of lighters and matches, candles, patio torches and gas cooking devices. A fuel power generator is one of the best devices you can have along with extension cords to reach your neighbors house and help them preserve the food in their fridge and freezer until you can process it. And if you want to go the extra mile then backup a lot of laptops, drives and electrical devices in faraday cages! A simple garbage can with aluminum tape will do. Also if an EMP strikes you would do best to have a car with no computer chips in it, mid 1980s or earlier. Start preparing now! Disaster could strike at any moment.
