It's just the end of March and I can't wait for the ASP fishing season to begin. It's been almost half a year since I haven't caught any fish and it's frustrating. It's been my hobby since I was 9 and practically my only one left thus I am waiting like a child to fish again.
Although I haven't spotted any action on the surface of the water I thought I should at least make a short inventory of the lures and flies and why not a few test casts. Although I was thinking this whole thing to take me around one hour I ended up with four hours of walks to the fishing shop, twice, and some three of four forth and back from the garage to the water.
In the picture above you can see the flies that I am using. They're not big, made in Germany and tested with good results last summer. This year I will begin the season with the same type although I have bought some other colors as well. I did changed the tactics a bit and I attached the lead at about 15 centimeters from the last fly and not at the end of the line like I used to last year. I've noticed that very often the fish would attack the lead and having no hook to it there were plenty of fake bites. Now I have a blinker attached at the end of the line that not only shines very nice and "swims" as well but has hooks to it, so no more fails.
Part of the casts was to find the proper blinker to do the job. I have tested all that are in the pic below and the lucky one is the one on the top. I like how it swings, shines and also its weight. I have to buy more of this because unfortunately it's the only one, but it's not expensive at all. A bit above $1. Will have to see how much of a success it has catching fish as well, because that's what matters after all. It looks good though in the water.
Regarding the fish I've noticed that with every year, since the ASP entered this area, it's getting bigger and bigger. My biggest one was of 1.6 kg, last summer, but I have a friend who caught one of 7 kg. That's what I am aiming too for this year. They seem to have developed some ambuscade technique as well, when eating and it's a really nice show. A clever one and also one from which almost always I end up with a fish on the line.
Now that I presented you my line for ASP fishing I just hope for it to commence eating as soon as possible. Last year it was the end of April when it came around here and this year I hope it will be sooner because as of April 27th we're having one and a half months of prohibition. Later than the year before. There is time left for it to make me some good fishing days though... if it will be around here on time.
Thanks for attention and have a great day!
