Where do you go fishing when you live in a desert?
I have heard that fishing is a great past time, a great time to be one with nature, a great time to bond with family members.
I have heard it all, and I agree, but what do you do when you live in a desert and there really aren't many places to fish other than the community ponds that everyone else goes to fish at?
I tell you what you do, you go fishing at the local canals!
Yes that is right fishing in canals can be some of the best fishing around.
This last weekend I took the boy out to the local canal and we dropped a line in.
We didn't do all that well but we had fun and we learned what to do next time.
Across the way, we saw a couple of old timers sitting there bringing fish after fish.
Not only that, but these were good sized fish!

Watch and learn.
We watched them for a bit and it appeared they were chumming the water with anchovies or some kind of dead fish.
Then they were dropping their line in off the bottom with a chunk of that same dead fish.
The result was them bringing in couple pound striper bass on the regular.
Here we were trying to use hot-dogs, which normally work pretty well.
Now we know what will catch the fish the next time we go!
