Have you ever heard that acronym before? BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand.? Right after that one, you'll usually hear, "I don't ever want to own a boat. But I do want my best friend to." Same goes for cabins, lol. The maintenance and upkeep on boats and cabins is similar. In that they require a lot of your time, a lot of space, and they can be very expensive.
I have been getting into fishing more now that I moved farther out from the city. There are lakes abound and the people around here enjoy it as much as I do. One of my regulars at my bar is a former professional bass fisherman, so I am soaking up as much from him as I can....unfortunately none of it has panned out yet, haha.
I had almost acquired a small fishing boat, going halvsies on it with my old man, but the deal fell through because the guy was a dumb twat waffle. But as with most things I encounter, there is a reason for everything. The reason that deal fell through was because there was a better boat for me in waiting.
I literally just wanted to get out on the water to fish, instead of fishing from a pier or shore. For 250 bucks, I got all I could ask for and then some.
Above, is the Classic Accessories, Colorado XT.....kind of.
Apparently Costco made a deal with them to sell the XT model, but they renamed it the Wilderness. I found it fitting for myself. A nice older gentleman had it listed on Craigslist for 250 dollars, AND that included the propeller bit. What is a propeller bit, you ask? It's a long shaft with a propeller on one end, and the other end gets attached to a drill. It's a red neck trolling motor if I've ever seen one, and I absolutely love it. You can kind of see it in the background of the cover pic if you want.
The pontoon's length is only 9 feet, thus it does not require any licensing or registration. It does have a spot for a trolling motor, but that would then require licensing and not to mention, a big ole battery to run it. So far, I am content with what I am using. The old man also attached some of his own unique ideas like the pole holder in the back, and a swivel mech for an anchor, which I definitely need to get.
FEET UP!
FEET IN!
All in all, I got everything I wanted, which was something inexpensive, easy to maintain, easy to haul, and fun to use. I have been loving the lake life, even though I got rained out this morning. I booked it to the launch when I knew the clouds weren't going to pass, and I made it out just in time. Pulled it ashore and waited it out for about a half hour before I called it a day :(
To end, how about another common quote?
"The worst day on the water is better than the best day at the office." and I couldn't agree more.
Thanks for reading and Hive on!
Let me see your boat!!! Or fishing vessel, or what have you :)
