It's hard to believe that I'm already on my 10th Reel Action fishing report! Oh boy does the time fly, Since I started doing these pieces I've increased my fishing game immensely. On Reel Action number one I was mere noob out on the Merrimack river, now I feel like I run the place. Yesterday we had an amazing day slammin' the striped bass right off of our favorite sand bar. We were surrounded by eight or nine boats and we by far were catching the most. My girlfriend Becca & I also celebrated our three year anniversary! No better way to celebrate than doing what we love, with who we love.
We started our trip strangley this time. I decided to let Becca drive the trailer. She always wants to practice so since we were headed out around noon (not much traffic) I decided this would be a great time to learn. She did an awesome job and we made it there in one piece lol.
We got the boat in the water and headed to the sand bar to start fishing. We were fishing the out going tide (opposite to what we normally do). When we got to the spot we threw on some circle hooks, 2 oz. pyramid weights & chunks of mackerel. Cast of the back of the boat and almost instantly I'm on to a 24" striper! The current was really moving so even this medium sized striper felt huge!
I released my fish and not more than thirty seconds later Beccas already onto a fish! This one is pulling some serious line out. It wasn't the biggest striper shes ever caught but it was full of energy. After a few minutes of wrestling the fish in he finally was tired out and I could scoop him up with the net.
A little schoolie selfie lol.
Finally a keeper! The legal size to keep striped bass in New England is 28". This fish was 29" but pretty skinny. Our freezer already has striper from an earlier trip so I decided to let this guy go, I'll get him next season. He was no monster but he put up a good battle.
