Hey steemers! I'm back today with another installment on my longest running series; Reel Action! It's hard to believe I'm already on my 16th episode! First off I'd like to shout out everybody who checks out my fishing posts and a warm welcome to anyone reading one for the first time! Yesterday my girlfriend Becca and I headed out to Merrimack River in Newburyport Mass looking for some Striped Bass, next week we will be up in Northern Maine searching for some monster Northern Pike!
It was a beautiful day; sunny, 80 degrees & just enough breeze to keep you cool. The river was pretty calm which is nice for being comfortable but I believe the waves make the fish bite better. None the less we headed out to our spot near the mouth of the river, cut up some mackerel and got our lines in the water. Within minutes I had a small fish, nothing to write home about but got me excited for sure!
Nothing better than having a girlfriend who loves fishing!
Out of no where my line started screaming! I got the hook set properly and began reeling it in. After a few minutes of fighting on my Penn Battle 6000 series I was able to land the fish. It was exactly 28 inches making it a legal keeper. I ended up putting it back because I already have striper in the freezer. I absolutely HATE killing the fish so if I already have some I just throw them back!
After the fishing began to slow down we headed over to a restaurant on the water called The Deck. It's really cool to pull up on the dock, grab a drink and then head back out to the river. We enjoyed a nice ice cold Moscow Mule (vodka, ginger beer & fresh lime).
