Wow! I can't believe I'm already on my 9th Reel Action blog! This is by far my favorite series that I do. Fishing is my biggest passion & I love finding new anglers on steemit.
This weeks reel action takes place on the Merrimack River in Newbury Port, Mass. We find ourselves fishing on an extremely windy day with 2-3 foot waves. These seem huge when your boat is only 16 feet long! It's a warm day in the mid seventies and there is hardly a cloud in the sky.
This particular day we caught about 40 striped bass which is the most we've ever caught (my girlfriend & I). The only problem is 39 of them were to small to be keepers. Luckily I did snag one keeper (You can only have one keeper per person) on a chunked mackerel bait. I'm not the biggest fan of the chunked mackerel because it makes a mess of the boat but you gotta do what you gotta do!
This is my 29'' striper that I caught on the mackerel. It put up a great fight and later that day became dinner! Striped bass is extremely tastey & healthy fish. It costs as much as salmon so catching it yourself is a huge bonus.
My girlfriend did not have the same luck, her biggest fish was not a keeper. Only 18'' but it still put up a great fight. She caught it on a smaller rod than mine so it seemed like she was pulling in a monster!
