In May, I conducted a #Move2Earn experiment using Actifit and my iPhone. I was in essence "blockchaining my fitness", while I walked around my neighborhood. This worked out quite well. Being active and adding movement to my day was a great way to increase my overall fitness. However, adding in the opportunity of earning was doubly rewarding.
Then in late June the Fountain app added in the ability to earn Satoshis for every minute spent listening to podcasts. This heralded in a whole new way of rewarding the time a podcast audience spent listing to their favorite shows. Hence #Listen2Earn was born.
BTW, here is my referral link to join Fountain: https://fountain.fm/refer/epodcaster-950f62171f
Step 1. Click link
Step 2. Click on "Wallet"
Step 3. Click on "Multiply Your Earnings"
Step 4. Click on "Redeem Code"
Step 5. Add in "epodcaster-950f62171f"
Step 6. Click "Redeem"
So now I could walk my neighborhood, listen to my favorite podcasts, and earn! Mind blowing, right?
Something New
This week I was notified that I had reached the "Mentor" status on the Wisdom social audio app. Which meant I could earn Mentor Coins for talking on their app IF anyone listened in while I was talking. Details of how that all works below from the Wisdom FAQs.
Can Top Mentors monetize on Wisdom?
Our goal is to become the largest mentorship platform in the world, and we are working on 1-on-1 experiences that Top Mentors will soon be able to monetize directly. As a small token of our gratitude, we reward our Top Mentor’s live talks with Mentorcoin (Wisdom’s new virtual currency) which can be redeemed for gift cards at places like Amazon and Starbucks or donated to charities like Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics.
This brought in a whole new level of earning possibility. Now I could open up the app in Wisdom and begin talking while I was walking my neighborhood blockchaining my fitness with Actifit. Once my talk was over, I could then switch to podcast listening to earn some Satoshis on Fountain.
Same Behaviors, New Results
Walking my neighborhood, listening to podcasts, and talking about podcasting, Web3, or anything else on my mind isn't new. I do this kind of stuff all the time. As a matter of fact, I created podcast called the Walk Talk Challenge a couple of years back to speak with women entrepreneurs about their business goals and challenges while walking around my neighborhood. Here is a link to season two of the Walk Talk Challenge on Aureal.
My standard go-to when walking my neighborhood is to either listen to a podcast or audiobook. Which means the only thing that has changed to my standard way of doing things (walking, talking, listening) is that I have changed the destination of my efforts.
- In the past I would have used MapMyFitness or Fitbit or Strava to track my fitness.
- In the past I would have only used Twitter Spaces to share my knowledge and expertise.
- In the past I would have listened to podcasts without the opportunity to earn. Not anymore.
Experimenting is fun!
While I am excited about the opportunities which exist within Web3 on places like Hive, in Podcasting 2.0 with apps like Fountain, and even Web2 with creative apps like Wisdom. I totally see this as an experiment. I'm kicking the tires. Pushing the buttons. Pulling the levers. Putting these concepts, platforms, and tools through their paces. So please know this post and what I have shared is based on my own experience. I highly recommend conducting your own experiments to learn if and how this works for you. When you do, please tag me in your posts. It would be great to have a collective knowledge base on similar experiments.
Not Done Yet
I'm always trying new things. I do like to experiment. I do like to see if things will blend. So, stay tuned.
