After 6 weeks of just doing whatever the hell i want on vacation and not exercising at all, I was ready to get back in the gym upon returning to Thailand. I am in a different city (albeit close to my old one) and joined a new and quite cheap gym. I had been told there is a lot of new equipment and that although small, it gets the job done.
This is true, but a few horrible people are ruining it for everyone and I don't understand how people can behave this way and not realize that it is bad form.
I mean just look at that. There shouldn't NEED to be a sign, but in this particular instance there already is one, lots of them actually telling people that they need to re-rack their weights. I ALWAYS re-rack my weights but where to even start with this mess?
I'm looking around this gym and i notice that people have (completely unnecessarily) brought a single dumbbell out of the dumbell area for some poorly executed exercise. Then, as expected, they leave the dumbbell over there. I was just trying to do a set of curls but couldn't even find the weights half the time because a selfish prick thinks that their butler works here.
This isn't even a big place, as you can see, and that is likely part of the reason why it only costs about $25 a month for a membership here.
I was only there for an hour but there was several people there that I think embody the worst possible people that can ruin a gym for anyone.
There was a "grunter" there. I am of the school of thought that unless you are in a powerhouse gym the likes of which are only frequented by Lou Ferrigno types if you have to grunt or scream in order to finish a set, maybe, just maybe step it back a notch or two. You look like a douchebag and you negatively impact everyone else's workout
There was at least 3 guys who didn't re-rack anything. I mean anything. They would use a squat machine with 20kg plates and then just leave them on the machine when they are done. This isn't a big deal for me because I have very little trouble lifting 20kg, but what about someone smaller? Now you have made their workout impossible and you are a jerk.
There was a guy doing calisthenics right under one of the most popular machines in the gym. I mean, why did you even come here? You can do pushups in your living room pal, this is just dumb. If you are going to do this in a gym, which is a level of stupidity that defies all logic, do it out of the way or barring that, not next to one of the most frequently used machines in the entire building.
There were multiple guys (the same ones that don't re-rack anything) that took 10-minute breaks between sets to check out all manor of social media on their phones. There are only 2 benches in the already chaotic barbell section, and two of these jackalopes had both of them.
If you, or anyone you know, does these things at the gym I want them to know that nobody admires you. Quite the opposite actually. The other patrons of the gym loathe you.
