Ok, this is going to hurt a lot. I have some specific goals I ideally need to reach, and in order to get there some changes are in order. So here's the deal: On average I work out 4 days per week, primarily powerlifting. As a medic I need to be able to maintain the ability to lift heavy patients, and if I get lazy about my routine then it's too easy to get injured during work. Each day that I'm working my gym routine it has been for about an hour or an hour and a half. One of my goals is to be able to deadlift double my weight. I'm not a big girl, so I don't weigh much-- only 110 lbs, but it's still hard work to pull twice that if you're my size! (STOP laughing!!!)
So here's what's changing this week, in order to bring in some bigger numbers:
-First, instead of meeting with my trainer only once in two weeks, I'm going to be working with a team of 4 people, twice a week. Probably Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each of these people will be instrumental and helpful in different ways.
-Next, I intend to upgrade some of my equipment. My basement gym is convenient, but at this point some items are inadequate. (As you can clearly tell by the first picture. This bit of machinery looks a bit more inspiring, in my opinion!)
-Here's the really tricky part: Blocking out larger chunks of time for more thorough sessions. Probably looking at 2 hours instead of 1 each time. This is going to cost me.
-Finally, to go along with this I am including some new rewarding smoothie recipes to better fuel my cells for all this hard work. I am reevaluating some of the stuff I've been eating and replacing it with living food. More raw veggies, better protein sources. Still working on the details of the menu plan, but I know that laziness has got to go. This will likely mean more kitchen time instead of fast solutions.
Here’s the smoothie I made today that was pretty good. 1 cup almond milk, 1tbsp bee pollen, 1/2 cup water melon, 3tbsp hemp hearts, 1 oz almonds, 1 oz cashews, 1tbsp coconut sugar, 200g of strawberries, 100g of blackberries, 100g of raspberry, 70g cherry, 70g pineapple, 1/4tsp turmeric, 10g glutamine, 50g avocado, 1cup egg whites.
It makes about 3 mason jars full.
I recently heard someone say that my convictions and my convenience don't live on the same block. This action plan is certainly not convenient, and anything BUT comfortable. It's miserable and inspiring at the same time. Maybe not to you, but in my world it sure is. I have actually been avoiding this much committment for a while. But here goes! Having just started in with this in the last couple days I will admit to being always sore (to be expected) and sleeping more. So what do you think? Can I do it?
