Today (June 14th) was Flag Day, a US holiday commemorating the adoption of the Stars and Stripes in 1777. All hail the magic pole quilt! May it wave away tyranny! People keep saying the prayer of allegiance to it, so we should have liberty and justice for all by now, right?
In case it isn't clear enough yet, I have nothing but contempt for the state religion and its symbols. National flags represent national governments, and despite the mythology of democracy, governments do not represent the populace. There is no rational basis for believing any flags represent family, society, virtue, courage, honor, or any other ideal you may hold dear. A flag is just a piece of cloth. Put your faith in something that can't be waved in your face by any old two-bit tyrant as a distraction from his evil deeds.
