Another new movie out this week was Flatliners.
This is essentially a sequel to the 1990 classic featuring a band of med students who discover that if they stop their hearts and medically die, they are able to experience the afterlife before their fellow students resuscitate them. Unfortunately for hose who flatline, something else comes back with them to torment them and reveal their guilty secrets.
Featuring the likes of Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and Julia Roberts, this was a great movie for its day and has a cult following.
Moving on to 2017, a new group of pre meds take turns at Flatlining. Ellen Page plays a woman who blames herself (rightly so) for the death of her younger sister in a car crash caused by her using her mobile phone while driving.
Kiefer Sutherland returns in the same role as the first movie but does not get involved directly with the events. He is now a resident Doctor and teacher of the new students.
Full of jump scares and supernatural activity, I found this to be on par with the original. What I enjoyed most was although you expected where the jump scares would come, they usually didn’t until a little after.
This is another movie I recommend. Remember - this is a loose sequel, not a remake although I suppose there are ways to argue that it is. Essentially, it’s everything that the 2016 Ghostbusters should have been.
