Man, accustomed to hearing stories of heroes, can invent virtues that he cannot even remotely have. In fact, this thirst for special faculties, lead him to do anything in order to have powers that make him superior to other human beings. This is the case of Inocencio, a sorcerer who used to cure anything and whom people still talk about, even many years after his death. The experience that Innocent lived supposedly is real and is proof of what someone can become to have a certain power. Today I will only tell you what they told me.

Inocencio was a half-breed, with black, torn eyes, smooth hair and shiny, dark skin. When someone had a problem, they would go to Inocencio's house: He would pass a black toad over his head and body. If the frog urinated on the person, it was because the person had a damage; if he did not urinate, the person only had a natural disease that was not cured by him but by the doctors. No one had ever complained about the powers of Innocent, until one day a young woman arrived at the ranch of the mestizo. Her painful purulent skin became detached and stuck to her clothes. When the woman arrived, the rotten smell of flesh invaded the air, and a dog at the corner of the ranch urinated and stuck his tail between his legs.

They say that Inocencio without turning to see the woman, said:

_The damage you have is great, woman. Get out of here, for not even the devil can save you.

They say that the woman stopped and as if there were a man inside her, she answered him with a hoarse and thick voice:

_That's why I came to you. I am told that you are the best sorcerer in the city. I am also a witch and if you help me, I will give you my powers to be invincible.

When Inocencio heard that voice, his skin bristled and a chill immobilized him for a moment. It is said that he turned calmly and looked at the woman from the top down. Her pale, sore skin was covered by ragged, torn clothes. She was a little hunched over and the whole back of her head had no hair. Inocencio approached and as he got closer and closer, the smell of a dead animal changed to the smell of sulfur. He did not touch her, but looked at her arms and asked:

"Woman, who have you done wrong?""

"No one," the woman hastened to say, "I have never done harm to anyone.

You lie. The damage that you have is damage that you did and that someone more powerful has given it back to you.
They say that Inocencio, in saying this, lowered his head and turned and insisted:

"You better go where you came from and take the one behind you. I make no pact with the devil.""

The woman ignored him and sat on a large stone in the middle of the garden. Her voice changed, she said to him:

"It's true that he wanted to do a witchcraft to someone, but I don't know what happened. I have been told that you are the only one who can cure me.""

Inocencio turned to see the woman and saw a strange gleam in her eyes. He lowered his head again and said harshly, forcefully:

"The work you did was with cemetery soil and newborn navel blood. With that you wanted to kill the other person. You didn't tell them that they could return the damage to you and they have done it. Now you have the damage in your bones. But the problem has not been the damage but the one with whom you have allied yourself. You made a contract with the devil. It is he who speaks for you because you have sold him your soul. If I took away the harm, the devil would stay with me. So go where you came from, because the Evil One is not welcome here."

They say that after this, the woman laughed and that when she left, she left a strange dead smell. Inocencio persecuted himself because he knew that this woman was not just any woman, but the devil in disguise.

Just like this story of Inocencio, there are many in which it is said that the devil is presented to people to tempt them, offering them power, wealth, good life. Some people fall into temptation and have made a contract or covenant with him. In some villages it is believed that the contract is in exchange for the soul. People ask the devil for something and he gives it to them, but in return he persecutes you and lives with you.
