Select a blog theme. Choose a topic that you are passionate about. If you are not interested in the blog theme you choose, you will get bored will likely become a lazy blogger. So choose a theme that interests you.

Let use fashion as the theme for this example. You start a fashion blog, now what?

Start creating content!

Take your time and make sure you are creating quality content. Use high quality photo's and make sure your blog layout is easy to follow and not cluttered. This may be your blog, but if you want to gain a following it's not about you, it's about your target audience.

The best way to become successful is to fulfill the needs of others. There are plenty of people in need of a good fashion blog.

Communication is key. Once you have created a few blog posts, start interacting with like-minded people. It's a numbers game. If you speak to 50 fashion lovers, a percentage of them are going to checkout your blog and a percentage of those people will follow you - assuming you are creating quality content.

Make friends. Friends are there to support one another. True friends will want to support you. Make some friends and you will have gained loyal followers.

If you were to 1) create great content and 2) spend a lot of time interacting with people who are interested in "blog theme", you will constantly have new eyes viewing your blog.

It's not all about you. Don't be selfish. Take some time to checkout other blogs which are similar to your own. Leave comments and befriend other bloggers similar to yourself. Making positive connections will go a long way.

Now that you have made some connections, work with each other. If you are willing to promote their blog, they will likely be willing to return the favor.

It is really that simple! Create content, socialize, make friends, make connections and work with other bloggers to promote each others blogs. The more effort that you put in, the more followers you will gain.
