It is another glorious day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!
We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today on our wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen! We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!
Today we made an amazing Italian inspired feast!
We had a beautiful spread with organic apple and chicken sausages, pizza, an antipasto platter, tortellini with pesto, sautéed vegetables with parmesan, beets with garlic and goat cheese, and a wonderful garden salad.
We started with our daily salad by picking lots of greens from the garden. We topped them with chopped apples, onions, creamy avocados, broccoli, and pungent crumbles of blue cheese.
We are all free to customize our servings exactly as we wish. This yummy salad portion is topped with homemade kimchi, nutritional yeast, sprouted sunflower seeds, and our swirled strawberry dream vinegar!
We browned some organic sweet and savory apple sausages in a bit of olive oil for our meat eaters to enjoy.
We also served a yummy flat bread pizza with lots of mozzarella, sausage, and roasted red peppers.
We prepared a beautiful antipasto platter for fun snacking! Here we have thin slices of prosciutto, dried salami, and mozzarella rolled with more prosciutto along with roasted red peppers and salty pitted olives.
We made a few delicious vegetable dishes for sides, and because we don't have any vegans dining with us today we were liberal with the cheeses!
We have been enjoying beets with almost every meal lately! These lovely root vegetables are a deep, dark red that looks fantastic against creamy dabs of white goat cheese. The textures complement each other nicely, and the flavors were practically made for each other! We drizzled the whole dish with garlic and herbs in olive oil for an extra tasty kick.
For another side, we lightly sautéed onions, peppers, cauliflower, and green beans in olive oil. We sprinkled the dish with shredded parmesan and let the heat of the veggies melt it.
We boiled some delicious ricotta and herb filled tortellini pasta, drained it, and tossed these tender stuffed noodles with flavorful garlic basil pesto sauce.
It was a fantastic feast that we celebrated in good company!
Of course we took a few extra minutes to make beautiful plates, because we feast with our eyes first! Taking care to make a pretty serving of food makes everything taste and feel better.
Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!
We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is our indoor wood burning stove in action - it cooks our food, warms our communal space, and heats water for hot showers all at the same time!
Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!
