This can be served as a side meal with meaty dishes or enjoyed on its own with salad. It's among our family faves, y'all need to try this. I promise it's heavenly delicious.
Ingredients
500 gm potatoes, peeled and sliced
2 1/2 cups milk
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp butter
salt to taste
1 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp garlic paste
1/4 cup cream
1 cup grated cheese, chilli flakes and
chopped coriander for garnishing before baking.
Instructions
Blanch the sliced potatoes, this helps ensure the potatoes suck up the sauce properly.
Next, the sauce. Melt butter in a saucepan, stir in plain flour, then cook on low heat for 5 minutes. Add the garlic, salt and pepper. Then slowly whisk in the milk. Bring to a boil, while stirring. Turn down heat and cook until the sauce starts to thicken. Add the cream and give it another final boil. Taste and adjust salt/pepper. Turn off the heat and set aside.
Butter a pyrex dish, then pour some of the sauce at the bottom and then followed by a layer of blanched potatoes. Pour half of the sauce and later the remaining potatoes and the remaining sauce. Add some coriander leaves and chilli flakes and the grated cheese on top.
Bake the gratin for approx. 20-30 mins or until the top is golden and potatoes are tender.
Enjoy my fellows ❤
