Hello everyone and welcome to my blog today. It's been a while that I've posted a food blog lately that's why I couldn't resist to post this recipe that I am gonna share to you guys. This is my sweet and spicy crispy tofu which I added some oyster sauce. You will just need that following ingredients.
3 blocks of tofu (atleast 250 grams)
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 small size red onion (cut into rings)
2 red chili (slice in half)
3 tsp brown sugar
1 tbsp of flour + 1/4 cup water (for slurry)
cornstarch or flour for coating the tofu
vegetable oil for frying
Procedure:
- Wash the tofu and cut into thin slices like this.
Slice your onion into rings, the chili cut into half and the garlic must be minced. Set aside.
2.After cutting the tofu, put some water enough to soak the tofu and sprinkle some salt. Let it soak for atleast 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
3.Once the tofu was drain and dry enough. Coat the tofu with cornstarch or flour. Flip it over and tap both sides to remove excess cornstarch/flour. Repeat the process until you coat all the tofu.
4.Heat a pan on low-medium heat and fry tofu until it turns golden brown. I advise not to fry tofu on higher flame because the coating of the flour will burn faster and the tofu will not be cook inside.
5.Repeat the process till finish and drain to remove excess oil. In the same pan, saute the onion first and adjust the heat on lowest setting.
In this part I just wanted the onion to softened and not burnt.
6.Take out the onion for later use. Then saute garlic and chili on the same pan. Add your water, sugar, salt and oyster sauce. Give a stir and let it simmer for atleast a minute.
7.Prepare your slurry by measuring 1 tbsp of flour/cornstarch then dilute it on 1/4 cup of water. Stir until dissolve.
8.Adjust the heat on low then gently pour slurry. Stir it constantly for few seconds or until it thickens.
9.Add the fried tofu and give a quick toss in pan. Turn of the heat and garnished it with sauted onion rings on top. Serve it while it's hot and enjoy it with rice.
The taste was incredibly delicious! I love the salt , sweet and spicy kick in every bite. Aside from that the onion rings added aroma and flavor as well. This dish must be serve while it's newly cook so the sauce will not thickened that much. I have leftovers on the pan and after a moment I checked and I couldn't scrape all the sauces covering the pan. You can also take it out and put in a vessel and re-heat it again.
I hope you could find time visiting my blog. This is all for today guys, thanks and have a good day!
XOXO
