You see that patch above? It is around 15 feet by 10 feet, that is all.
We put 20 small strawberry plants in it last year.
Now the one thing I have learned about strawberries is this, they multiply via the roots, so 20 became 100's, so now they live here with what will be a small part at the front for tomatoes.
After running out of space there, as the part with nothing in will be tomatoes, we had to start putting them on the drive , along with the raspberry plants we removed from around the side of the house, see pic below, it still requires a lot of soil turning. The root parsley is from last year, that survived ok as did 3 carrots and a single beetroot.
So the new home for the raspberries is here.
I would guess we have another 100 or so strawberry plants to move to the front drive ways.
Then it is time to plant, after I erect (calm down girls) :-) the new greenhouse that will then double as a spray booth after seeds are sown/planted outside.
What we planting this year? Thanks for asking, I thought you would never get around to it!.
Brussels sprouts, carrots, cabbages, peas, sunflowers, cucumber, beans, beetroot and a whole load more I can not even remember.
Most of the seeds we kept from last years harvest, so we do not have to buy many.
3 of the fields are being farmed and will be shared with the local community starting with the elderly and most needy first, then on to everyone else that wants or needs some.
The greenhouse will be moved to the bottom of the drive in autumn and will have some tables in that we will stock daily with apples and everything else on a bring some take some basis and no cost.
So anyone can stop and take some, as long as they leave something fresh of their own.
This is the first year we will be doing this from home, instead of driving around giving it away.
It is a good year for apples this year, as it is every second year, so cider will be made by the ten gallons again. We have 3 apple orchards and one very large tree that is cooking apples that my lady makes jam from.
Tomorrow will be dandelion harvest day to make cough medicine for winter, it also seems to cure all manner of slight ailments, it is dandelions boiled, with water, and sugar, then sieved down to a drink.
It is brown, and tastes like pop, 1 or two teaspoons full and 3 times a day.
Next month will be nettle harvest and the month after, for tea, and for making a natural pest control, mix nettles with water, cover it, let the sunshine mature it for a week, remove the cover (it stinks bad like manure) and spray on plants that have problems with insects and bugs, they do not like the smell and stay away, it is also not full of chemicals so safe to consume on carrots, tomatoes or anything else once washed.
That will also be the first time I have large scale made scrumpy cider, the locals will let me know how it goes, as that is freebie also for them.
I see little to no point in being anywhere without adding some value to the local society, so this is my "this years version" of .
Got to get my planting head on now, wishing you a perfect day and see you in the PM.
