Talk is rife that Gianluigi Donnarumma, the 18 year Italian international goalkeeper will sign a new contract with AC Milan which includes a clause allowing him to join Real Madrid in 2018.
The youngster has had a rough period over the past few weeks as super-agent Mino Raiola has turned his head to look for more lucrative deals and the Milan Ultras took exception to this. Donnarumma claims he has been getting death threats as a result. While no one should be subject to this abuse, especially an 18 year old, the Milan fans feel the goalkeeper should be showing some loyalty since the club were willing to take a big risk on him by playing him at the age of 16. AC Milan will feel they have contributed alot to his progression and deserve respect in return by at least staying with the San Siro side for a few years.
While playing recently for Italy Donnarumma had fake dollars thrown at him from the stands. He brushed it off by saying he's not worried about dollars, but only Euros.
It seems a matter of time before he leaves for one of the other big European clubs. The latest development in the contract situation should please AC Milan officials but I doubt the ultras will give Gianluigi a warm reception first game of the Serie A season.
Loyal, one clubs players seem to be a declining trend. With the likes of Totti, Lahm, Gerard, Scholes, Giggs, Zanetti all retiring recently, do you feel this type of player is a rarity now?
