Meet Dragan Stojkovic - Piksi
Stojkovic was one of the great players who somehow got under radar when we are making top lists of all time players. This goal earned him direct red card, but also an apology from UEFA president Michel Platini, who said its a most wonderful goal he ever seen, considering he was wearing suit and shoes.
Piksi was actually revolted because of missed chance of his Nagoya team against Yokohama, and decided to show his player how to kick the ball.
He is the last, ‚‚fifth star" of Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) Belgrade, club who will play Arsenal FC on october 19 this year in Europa League group phase. 5th star tittle means he was the last of Red Star greatest players of all time. Before him there were Dragan Dzajic, Rajko Mitic, Dragoslav Sekularac and Vladimir Petrovic - Pizon.
He left Red Star Belgrade just season before they lifted Champions league (European Cup) 1991.
To make thing worse, he gone to Olympic Marseille to join Cantona, Deschamps, Papin, Abedi Pele and the rest of the Dream team from that era, but they lost the EC final against heavy underdog - Piksi`s former club.
After Marseille, Stojkovic gone Far East, and spent the rest of career as one of the stars of Japanese league. He is still there as manager, and he never really forgot his football.
One of his best goals, and also one that perfectly sums his mentality, creativity and skills is from Italia 90 WC, against Spain.
While 99,9% of players would volley this ball on 1st touch, he played the ball down, like a boss. Like it was saturday evening easy training match.
Thing is, he didnt had form drops, and while he was at his last seasons in Red Star, he was unsolvable puzzle for best players and best teams of early 90s, before he moved to Nagoya. This is him against heavyweight AC Milan, season before he gone to France, 1/8 CL final.
Carlo Ancelotti, Baresi, Riijkard, young Maldini&Costacurta and the rest of AC Milan just couldnt handle him. But noone really could, even the best ones of his time, and that was the era of greatest defenders of all time.
For many many footbal lovers who had the chance to watch him, he is the best one of all time.
One weird thing is, he is the last Red Star legend. Theres no new legendary players after him, and he stopped playing long long time ago. Lets hope for a new legend soon.
