Until the 2018 World Cup rolling record the most performance in the World Cup is still held German legend Lothar Matthaus with 25 matches.
Matthaus appeared in the 1982 Duna Cup in Spain until the 1998 World Cup in France. Quoted from the official website of FIFA, Matthaus is a non-keeper player who entered squad in five World Cup finals.
Two other players who have similar records such as Matthaus are Mexico's national team goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal [World Cup 1950 to 1966] and Italian national team goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon [World Cup 1998 to 2014].
"I have a fantastic career that makes me proud to this day.It's hard to beat this record because it's all teammates around you.. Buffon should be able to perform in six World Cups," said Matthaus.

Matthaus underwent the first game in the 1982 World Cup when delivering the West Germany national team to defeat Chile 4-1 in Gijon, Spain, June 20, 1982, in the group stages.
Matthaus's last appearance came when the German national team defeated Croatia 0-3 in the 1998 World Cup quarter-final at Stade de Gerland, Lyon, July 4, 1998.
Matthaus's best achievement in the World Cup was to bring West Germany into the 1990 world championship in Italy by beating Argentina 1-0 in the final round. Matthaus when it became captain of the West German national team.
"Winning the World Cup was the most emotional experience, when I played and stayed in the Italian league, so it was like playing at home and the Italian supporters also supported us Rudi Voeller also played in AS Roma and the Italian national team defeated Argentina, so a stadium supported us," Matthaus said.
