After an incredible 2016 in the Euro championships beating England and reaching the Quarter Finals in their first major tournament where they eventually lost to Finalists and hosts France, Iceland have defeated the odds once again and sealed a place at the World Cup in Russia.
Once minnows of the game Iceland a country with approximately 335,000 people has become the smallest nation ever to reach the World Cup finals after beating bottom side Kosovo at home 2-0 which guaranteed top spot in the group against the likes of football giants Croatia, Turkey and Ukraine.
The previous smallest country that made it to the world cup was Trinidad & Tobago in 2006 with a population of 1.3 million people slightly less than Northern Ireland at 1.85 million.
With a Fifa ranking position of 21 Iceland are making storms into the football world with such a small selection pool what is the success behind them, Many people just say heart and spirit with a great fan support but i'm sure its that fighting viking blood they have inside them.
