Argentina Football Association (AFA) have confirmed that coach, Jorge Sampaoli has been sacked as the Head coach of the national team.
Sampaoli was sacked following Argentina's ouster from the World Cup in the hands of France in the knockout stage.
There were lots for criticisms for the side during the group stage or the World Cup as regards his selections and tactics.
A disappointing draw against tournament debutant, Iceland in their first game, followed by a 3-0 bashing in the hands of eventual finalist, Croatia really exposed the team's lapses.
It was rumoured that senior players led by Lionel Messi selected the team that played Nigeria in their final group game which they edged the African giants 2-1 to gain qualification into the knockout stage.
Their luck looked to have run out in the knockout stage where their deficiency in pace and tactics were duly exploited by the French team who defeated them 4-3.
Sampaoli took over the Argentine national team after successful stints with Universadad de Chile, Chile and guiding Sevilla to Champions League football at the end of the 2016/2017 season.
It was hoped that he would bring an end to Argentina's underwhelming performances at major tournaments but it seemed not the case as he could not steer the team to measure up with the efforts of Lionel Messi who has suffered from the pressure mostly.
