Bristol City beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Carabao Cup Quarter Final after Korey Smith scored a dramatic injury-time winner to send the Championship side into the last four.
Nobody gave Bristol City a chances, especially as United had a strong team out and were defending their crown from last season, but Bristol City went ahead after a spectacular opening goal by Joe Bryan, only to be pegged back by a Zlatan Ibrahimovic equaliser.
Then with extra time looming Smith scored with the last kick of the game to land them a semi-final tie with Manchester City.
It was an exciting match and both teams were going for the win. United almost took an early lead through Ibrahimovic. Anthony Martial's back-post cross found the striker, whose knock-back hit the crossbar.
Rashford then rattled the post just after 20 minutes with a thunderous low strike. It wasn’t all United, though. A last-ditch Daley Blind tackle denied Smith, who was through on goal and just the keeper to beat.
United were the dominant side, as you’d expect but they did seem to lack rhythm. It was 0-0 at half-time but not long after the home side went 1-0 up.
A counter attack from Bristol City instigated by Bryan, who picked the ball up inside his own half. He flicked the ball over Blind, and started the counter. He followed his run and founf the ball again before producing a stunning strike from a tight angle into the top corner.
United weren’t behind for long. Just eight minutes later, Ibrahimovic celebrated his return with a powerful 20-yard strike from a free-kick on the edge of the area.
Mourinho sent on Lukaku and Henrik Mkhitaryan in search of a winner. Lukaku could have won it for United and was unlucky on three occasions, but the Belgian forward was foiled by Bristol City keeper Luke Steele.
Then with extra time imminent, in the 90+3 minutes up stepped Korey Smith. Matty Taylor was given space down the left and his cross dropped perfectly for Smith who was inside the area. He kept his composure and fired a low effort past Sergio Romero, to send the red half of Bristol into an early Christmas celebration.
