The world’s first Forest City is now under construction in Liuzhou, Guangxi Province, China.
Designed by Italian architectural firm Stefano Boeri Architetti, The Liuzhou Forest City will be home to 30,000 residents once it’s completed.
Commissioned by the Liuzhou Municipality Urban Planning department, the project is planned to be complete in 2020.
Occupying 432 acres, The entire city will be covered in roughly a million plants of over 100 species, as well as 40,000 trees.
Those plants will produce around 900 tons of oxygen, 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide and 57 tons of pollutants annually.
The forest will also have all the components needed of a major residential area, offices, hotels, two schools and a hospital.
The city will be connected to Liuzhou through a fast rail line which will have electric-powered cars.
