English Version - Click to Display This Saturday morning was the qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and it was full of surprises, from history for Argentina with a driver in Q3 with Franco Colapinto in the Williams qualifying above Alex Albon, Red Bull could say they had a good role even though both Checo and Verstappen had moments where they almost lost control qualifying in 4 and 6 each. What was constant and did not change even for a lap was Ferrari with Leclerc, extremely dominant in this circuit and for the fourth year he returns and makes Pole in Baku, can he turn it into a victory?
English Version - Click to Display The Ferrari's are on point, that Lecrec is this fast is understandable, the man is doing very well on the Baku circuit and he is one of the fastest drivers on the grid but it is worth noting that Sainz had an excellent qualifying, the strange thing is that no one was talking about Sainz and it makes me a little sad because he is an excellent driver with a lot of cold blood, even the Sky commentators did not talk about his performance, maybe he went unnoticed because his qualifying was progressive almost being out in Q1 but the truth is that the track was still not at its best, and for Q2 if as the cars were doing more laps all the dust that was on the track was rising, typical of Baku, the tires were getting hot, in Q2 he was seventh and in the end he was able to get into third behind and very close to the McLaren with Oscar Piastri.
English Version - Click to Display Mercedes had been doing well during the weekend, they were relatively fast in free practice yesterday and today. In Q1 they were normal, nothing extraordinary, but like many other drivers Russell knew how to take advantage when in Q2 the track got up to speed and went from fourth in Q2 while Hamilton actually started to degrade his pace, both went to Q3 but they had problems with the car, I would say, of balance, I don't think it was traffic or track conditions as in the interview with Hamilton he commented that the car felt good this weekend and he had the idea that they could qualify better, maybe not on the front row but at least in the top four, Qualifying 5th and 7th in a circuit like Baku is a bit problematic and it is possible that they will split the strategy for race day where one of the two will start with hard tires (white) and go long and I think it could be Russell as he likes that plan, we have seen him do it in other races, while Hamilton may start with medium tires and look to move up positions but it is difficult having Checo third, Verstappen sixth and Alonso eighth, so they have defense and attack from all sides of the Mercedes team.
English Version - Click to Display McLaren has not ceased to be a topic of conversation at any time since last year at Silverstone when they had that great race where they surprised many but unfortunately even in the victories they shit. During the week they had released a statement that from Baku they were going to support Norris one hundred percent in the drivers championship and that Piastri was going to do the same, let's not forget that Piastri's manager is Mark Weber so let's not talk about partnership but in any case that was the order of the team, and then in qualifying they looked like tremendous assholes.
English Version - Click to Display With three minutes to go before the end of Q1 Norris and Piastri were in danger, the track was beginning to get in better condition to lower times, both McLaren drivers are in the pits and come out with 2 minutes to go: 55 minutes to the end of Q2 which would only be enough for a slow warm up lap and a fast one to see if they were not left out, when Ricciardo passes the finish line in the RB is above both McLaren, the water does not mix with the oil, the RB is not faster than either McLaren, there was simply a drastic change in track conditions which is totally natural and predictable unless there was bad weather, call it rain, this always happens either at the end of Q1 or in the middle of Q2.
English Version - Click to Display Some commentators talk about Norris staying in Q1 because of a yellow flag in the last sector, what a brother, they stayed because they were confident, because they were webiando.
- Having 9 drivers behind them that could do a better lap than them at the time, they thought to continue with used tires because they were saving for Q3.
- Norris crashed in the corner and the whole car spun out, he went too fast.
- He was doing a similar time to Verstappen so he was not slow.
Almost everyone who qualified in Q1 went out with new tires knowing that the track was getting better, they really make a fool of themselves with their "Papaya Rules" and saying that now they are going to support Norris when they should have issued that order three races ago. With this that just happened Norris will start 17th, not even Verstappen with the RB19 last year wins that race unless he pulls one out of his sleeve like Checo did at Force India. If Leclerc wins the race tomorrow he would be above Norris, the order that Piastri has to support Norris goes to hell and maybe it would be almost impossible for Norris if not extremely difficult for him to win the championship.
English Version - Click to Display That start tomorrow will be in bomb with Leclerc and Piastri ahead, Piastri runs the McLaren as if he were in a GoKart and watch out for a red flag and whoever can save himself, it would be perhaps the best thing that could happen for Red Bull and well maybe for Norris even though so far back I do not think he will advance anything if there is a red flag on the first lap, Piastri knows how difficult it is to pass in Baku, I mean he doesn't have much experience on the track but he knows it, he will try to pass on the first lap without hesitation and as we have seen he is very very aggressive with the late braking, I hope that like the qualifying tomorrow the race will be very very good.
