English Version - Click to DisplayThe 2025 Saudi Arabia F1 Grand Prix did not go as expected, which is not surprising, but what is certain is that Oscar Piastri's move was controversial, although in my opinion it was correctly penalized by the race stewards. Piastri started second with the inside of the track in his favor and had a better start than Verstappen, possibly with better traction, which was enough to get the front of the McLaren ahead of Verstappen's Red Bull, allowing him to reach the apex first. But of course, Verstappen, being the competitive and aggressive driver that he is, pushed the rules to the limit and didn't give up, so he took the exit off the track and stayed ahead.
Many will think that it is dishonest of Verstappen to leave the track and then not give back the position, but in a race anything can happen. He is the driver and he is not seeing from outside the track. If his team does not instruct him to give back the position, he will NEVER give it back. The main reason for this is that it is the job of the track marshals to make decisions when they are not clear, and what is certain is that Verstappen and the entire Red Bull team knew they were risking a penalty, but it was also the lead in the race, which they really needed.
English Version - Click to DisplayIt wasn't an easy day for either Red Bull driver. Verstappen had problems at the start after the incident with Piastri, which didn't cause any major issues, but he was given a five-second penalty, which he served during his pit stop, putting him in second place. The rest is history, as Piastri currently has enough of a car to do exactly that: take the lead and never look back. With Piastri's talent and the McLaren, all he has to do is finish the race. Verstappen knows he's working magic with the car he has and that it's taken a lot to get them to this point, but he also knows he needs to get pole position to have a chance of winning the race, as today showed that when Red Bull is in second place, with degradation, temperature, and turbulence, it's not a car that can overtake like Lando did with his McLaren, going from 10th to finish 4th in the race.
For his part, Yuki not only had an accident in qualifying but also crashed at the start of the race with his former teammate Gasly. It was declared a racing incident and did not cause any further problems. Although Yuki's car looked fine aesthetically, there was something wrong with the mechanics that prevented him from continuing, and he had to retire as soon as he returned to the pits. It was a hard blow for Yuki after making it to Q3, as he thought he had a chance to score some good points.
English Version - Click to DisplayOscar Piastri, as indicated by the number 1, not only wins the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix but also takes the lead in the championship ahead of his teammate Lando Norris. Piastri is now 10 points ahead, a considerable advantage, and the truth is that the only one who currently has a possible answer to Piastri is Verstappen, but we have already seen that car against car, Verstappen has no chance. I'm not saying that Piastri has it easy to win the championship, but this change of direction could be a drastic change for the McLaren garage because what is happening with Norris is that he can't handle the pressure. This happened to Verstappen last year, and I think it's going to be worse coming from the same team because, just like last year, Norris complained to the team on occasion that HE was the one competing for the championship. With two more races to go, I find it difficult to see Norris doing anything about the championship because Verstappen is going to tame him just like he has done with all his teammates. The most interesting thing of all is, as always, Piastri's calmness behind the wheel and off the track. He is a man of very few emotions, which makes him extremely dangerous behind the wheel in the sense that nothing bothers him and his concentration is 110% pure.
English Version - Click to DisplayIn Saudi Arabia, there was another trigger: Ferrari's first podium finish after Hamilton won the sprint in China. There were high hopes for him, and it was still unclear who would lead the team, although Leclerc is known to be the first driver. However, results are what matter. In this race, Leclerc made a tremendous comeback, as for a while I didn't think he would overtake Russell, who is having an excellent season so far in terms of podium finishes with Mercedes. Even so, Leclerc secured third place for Ferrari, leaving Hamilton with no arguments. Videos are already circulating with Hamilton's alleged allegations that the car is not up to standard and that he does not feel comfortable with it, but the truth is that Leclerc did deliver results today.
Hamilton is one of my favorite drivers, and I would be very sad to see us fall back into the same situation as in his last seasons at Mercedes, where he even mentioned that the team was not allowing him to progress. Now he's moving to Ferrari, who offered him a fortune, putting their money and faith in Hamilton's talent, only for him to ultimately fail to deliver? It would be pretty sad to see him go through two teams and find ourselves with the same excuses. Will history repeat itself, with great drivers coming to Ferrari after their prime just to accumulate money for their retirement?
English Version - Click to DisplayFormula 1 is taking a weekend off and then returns to Miami for the first weekend in May for its sixth race, where I wouldn't expect much movement at the top of the grid. a track that I don't think favors Red Bull and will make their job more difficult in the areas where they need aerodynamic downforce and speed on one of the longest straights of the season. I think it will be more of the same, waiting for Vertappen to work his magic while McLaren continues its dominance.
