I wasn't shocked when Max Verstappen won the German Grand Prix on Sunday. Max is a brilliant driver and is even better when the track is wet. As soon as I knew it would be raining I knew Max was going to win barring an accident or a mechanical as he has done it before.
13 drivers completed the race out of a starting grid of 20 which just shows how tricky this one was. Lewis Hamilton was on pole and lets just say his race was a cock up and pitted 6 times. Saying that Verstappen pitted 4 times and still won.

The weather played a huge role as the tires played a crucial role. If the rain is bucketing down the drivers will switch to the wet tires. The track changes very quickly as the cars dry the track up on the driving line and then you have to move to intermediates. If the track dries too quickly you will lose the tread within 5 laps on this type of tire and you still need to find water whilst driving around to keep the tread intact.

Sundays race had wet and dry spots and then it rained again and dried out straight afterwards. This is why timings are crucial as some drivers went too early on slicks and crashed out. Others had intermediates and still crashed out with Le Clerc and Bottas going out at the same corner. It doesn't take much to lose the back end when the track is wet.

Just to show how crucial the timings are was when Lance Stroll who was 16th at the time changed his tires to slicks (dry). His teams call to bring him in was a genius move as within one lap he was first. Unfortunately he doesn't have the skills of most of the other drivers and even though the car has the same Mercedes engine as Hamilton and Bottas he couldn't hold on and finished in 4th place. Daddy's money got him the seat and I don't rate him at all.
