It is important for people to be free to live and let live, to do what they want and seek goals and success for their dreams.
That is freedom, and we all deserve freedom.
In my mind there is no exception to that truth.
Even if I hate what you love...
As long as you are letting others be and not intentionally causing them physical harm, or actively holding them back from their dreams, I say you do you.
This doesn't mean all lifestyles are equal, not all paths are good, not all decisions are worth pursuing BUT we should be free to seek our preferred path.
What I am talking about is we should protect freedom, and true freedom requires EVERYONE, even those you hate, be free to live as they choose. So we all must actively work toward defending the freedom of ALL, including our friends and foes.
Either everyone is free or no one is.
Having said all that, the idea of equality of outcome has become popular and this is poison.
Equality of Outcome is Dangerous
Equality of outcome is the idea that it is preferrable to manipulate selection toward non-preferred qualities, in order to "balance" representation.
So an example would be you hire 50% men and 50% women for every job or you are being unfair.
This sounds nice but it denies the existance of intrinsic strengths of the sexes. For example men are typically, not always, larger than women, and so manual labour can more easily be done by an average male. Can females do that work? Sure many can, but on average men are predisposed to greater size and strength so they make more sense to fill those jobs.
It doesnt mean you deny a strong woman the right to that job. That is illogical prejudice. But it does mean you hire the 100 people who are most capable and ignore their gender and sexual organs in the process.
Are you capable? Do you want the job? Then you should be free to claim that opportunity.
What I am calling for is "equality of opportunity". What many are wrongly calling for is "equality of outcome".
Equality of outcome is illogical, prejudicial and dangerous. It leads to less qualified people filling roles to meet quotas and that is stupid at best and dangerous at worst.
In the linked video Jordan Peterson argues for the defense of the idea of equality of opportunity and the killing of equality of outcome.
Let's create a place we can all seek our dreams, and strive to enjoy life, not intentionally holding anyone back. That is true freedom in my view and we either all have it or none have it.
