Yesterday was a day of hope for those who like to recycle perfectly good food!
After using a website this website Trash.wiki to find possible places where its already been used before for dumpsterdiving since many years, I was saddened that there wasn't that many suggestions but yesterday I found Dumpstermaps! and there were 30 researched locations in Krakow, Poland. From these 30 only 10 where reported to be good and worth trying out, and so yesterday I went on a tour and the difference being this time was having some destinations of where I was going.
Just an example!
I had already did some searching in previous days and found just one place that has dumpsters out the back, but strangely so far I see only ones for fruits and veggy's. What is happening to all the dairy products, meat and fish?!
I guess most of it is sold at discount and people are happy(including myself) to get things for cheap and so this reduces the waste alot. The other day I saw a place where a worker took a long time to get all the out of date things and after halfway down the fridge aisle, the trolley was with as much as it could fit in, and it was also stacked up high. I even went back a few hours later hoping that it would all be on offer but wasn't, nor the next morning, and so it must have got thrown out?
On a Bimble! I was heading to the ones that were on the map but also getting of the tram when I saw a possible score and a place to check out..
And its looking promising!
The first open place I found with things inside was nothing really special, but I will definitely go there in the evenings. Pritty grimey actually, but it looked also as if someone had already been there the previous day or evening.
under a closer inspection!
I took from there multiple packs of spinage (how do you even spell this?!) that was to my surprise all in perfect condition as normally there's a fair few black and soggy leaves to separate at home and then all the good leaves need to be washed before eating. I took two perfect tomatoes, 2 red peppers, a corgette, some mushrooms, some sprouts, and a packet of beetroot powder to make a beetroot sauce.. oh and the dog food! And had to edit in that i took lots of bananas to a friends place and we made banana bread!
I went to look for 2 more places on the dumpster map but they were empty, it was a Sunday after all and all was closed.
It takes me a while to find my way back to the new apartment, and with no internet on the phone, its even more fun! Here's random pictures of a bimble yesterday!
Just a cheeky little intro to dumpsterdiving in Krakow! I will do more posts on what I find soon :)
