For the life of me I can't seem to figure out how is it that these so called "politicians" don't know how freedom works. I mean, every now and then I think they know, but when it comes down to it, when it matters, they always end up screwing things up.
Ending Abortions?
Before I try to tackle the controversial topic, which is sure to offend one or more people, I would love to get some context as to the title of this sudden post.
I can't possibly know how to win elections, how to even win political arguments if I'm to be honest. But, I do know one thing. Every single time someone argues for restriction of freedoms, that person is wrong. Regardless of how much I think someone's choice is the wrong one, it's really none of my business.
To me, this whole idea of ending abortions that the right wing pushes for, is nothing more than big government with another mask. It's nothing more than populist rhetoric, fabricated moral outrage to provoke masses on both sides of the isle.
It's fake, it's hypocrisy at it's finest and easy to demonstrate it to be. But leaving the stupidity of the idea behind, I would like to talk about the real issue here.
Will it work?
The short answer is no. It never has, it never will. You see, it's hard for some people to make this distinction but it's not that complicated.
People conflate having the government paying for abortions, which is undesirable, with the freedom of people to chose to have children or not. Granted, it the line is not easy to draw on the sand, but it's not hard to see that it needs to be there.
If...
If it happens, if all of the sudden it becomes illegal, we don't have to guess what will happen, because we can see it all over the world. When a government bans access to abortion people don't just stop.
In south america, where I'm living currently it's illegal, and guess what happens? There are clandestine clinics for people to still get the procedures, and it's not that uncommon for women to die in them.
Granted I'm not applauding having an abortion, I don't think it's something to be taken lightly, but that is my personal morals, and it has little to do with reality.
If it's still unclear for you, let me give you some easier examples. I don't think people should use heavy drugs like meth or cocaine, but I can't stop you from doing so, nor should I have the power to. Has the drug on wars stopped anything?
Point is
I really thought the Dems had little to no chance of retaining power this year, I really did. It felt inevitable since their handling of everything has been absolutely terrible. But now... now it seems like the opposition, the party who is still trying to shake of Trump's grip on it is about to hand over the victory, thus making sure the ruling class learns nothing.
As always, just a stupid circus.
