It was Saturday morning, and the crumbs had gathered under the table. Big Bread Crumb was unimpressed with Little Bean's lateness. He was always late to gather from his corner near the sink. Dust Bunny was keeping watch to make sure none of the humans were awake. It was almost time for the Great Gathering. It was expected that many would come.
The ants were busy bustling about, milling their way up to the counter top to gather food from the dishwasher. Several of them positioned themselves where they would see the hallway, allowing them to alert the crumbs if they see any movement from Dust Bunny's blind spot. The last thing they wanted was to end up like last week when their trails had been infected by a minty smell. Those humans should know better than to meddle in Ant and Crumb business. Who were they, walking around like they owned the place, all big and mighty!
The previous month's group that had gathered had ended up in the vacuum vortex of infinite suffocation and death. And although the legend says that the path of this tunnel is the way to heaven, no one really felt like knowing for sure.
The purpose of their gathering was to find the way to the Promised Lands, where ant, crumb and dust bunny could coexist without the threat of the doom humans call "chores" and the purge they call "cleaning". The garden being full of other predators, many of them more intelligent than humans, inside their home is the least dangerous place they had found so far. Through word of mouth, the stories of the Promised Lands had been passed down and the place was said to be dark, dank, and inaccessible by humans. The only problem was they had no clue where the entrance was. The Great Gathering will soon begin, the nervousness is palpable. This big question needs an answer, or they are doomed to this endless cycle.
This Freewrite was written by me, Celinka , with my husband, Frank
. This is the first time he actually writes on Steemit. Usually he reads, upvotes, comments at times; he is rarely on. I managed to convince him to freewrite with me and this is what we came up with together. I wrote the first minute and we went from there.
