Note: This might be a rant or raw spill from my mind.
So, I have been dealing this issue for quite some time. I think it is time I write something about. I am dealing with inferiority complex sometimes I have that feeling but the most annoying form I don't like is when you see smart individuals you had the chance to meet at school and in the class, just make a change from theirsekves and from their background or say heritage.
I am from Wageningen, a village in the border district Nickerie, Suriname. I lived there for at least 24 years (no regrets) as i would proudly say 'born and bred' Nickerian. Went to school till high school which was located in New Nickerie (1.5 hour busride - that are stories for another day).
So you might ask then, ok so what with inferiority complex?
Well at high school I made a lot of friends, met a lot people and a lot of smart and confindent people too.
You should know that this school is ranked as one of highest scoring schools in the country , consistenly thoroughout the years. These guys are/were confindent, seeing the discussions we had in recess from gadgets, tech to science to social problems.
But I don't what happened to them.
- Some changed - They see you but act like they don't know you !
- Some change so drastically - They change their social handles and delete any ties with the place.
- Best friends drifted away.
- There is one case where, she just cut all ties with all her friends and even her parents had difficulty to have a good contact with her ... Now she is missing for more 2 years in Netherlands - presumably dead.
Note: we both attended same classes and was my neighbour and a studybuddy and both candidates for Youth Exchange Student program (US-program) - Walked one past the day before yesterday - acted like she didn't knew me.
Why? Why are they acting like this?
Inferiority complex - Maybe I think
- Maybe they are sick of the jokes about Nickerians and their place ( a rural place full of paddy fields)
- Maybe they want to try new things and new friends
- Maybe it was instructed.
Something I do, you should embrace your heritage but everyone have their own way expressing it. You could inform people correctly about Nickerie instead of skimming away about the things they say about Nickerie and Nickerians - cut the bullshit and say something for once!
And tes there is good news as always : I have (re)connected with a lot of them. I'm glad they doing well and hope the best for them and I wish them well too.They are all scattered across the globe and in the academic field.
I might be to 'patriotic' about my district. That place has a special place in my heart and everyone from there who has something positive to give.
