"I don't think this is a fair question" said the student.
"There's always one in the bunch" thought his math teacher. Then: "Why is it always this smart ass?! I don't want to waste my time with his stupid questions today."
The question read:
"The students held a bake sale. They sold 100 donuts for one hundred dollars. They then distributed the proceeds among all 20 of them. Please write an equation that illustrates this profit sharing, and identify the dividend."
The boy had written "100 divided by 20 = 5. 5 is the dividend."
His answer had been marked incorrect. The teacher was adamant that the dividend was 100 and refused to discuss it any further.
Who is correct?
This is my entry for today. I wrote until the story was done and had the luxury of proofreading for nearly one full minute. Thank you for reading!
