We Always Had the Most Fun at the Pond

We were only 20 minutes away from grandpa's ranch. We got to come here every summer for 2 and sometimes 3 weeks. It was so much fun.
We could ride horses. There was a big swing in the tree out front. We played hide-and-seek in the barn with all the hay bales. But best of all we went to the pond.
Swimming, fishing, boating all at the lake. Hours and hours of fun at the lake. We are here.. "Hi grandpa, we're going swimming", we yelled as we ran past him toward the pond.
"Wait", he yelled but we didn't hear him.
We got to the lake and ran to the end of the short pier. NO WATER. Where was...
