Dead Battery
The wind was howling outside. This wasn't an enjoyable day to be driving in to the office.
He quickly chugged his coffee, and grabbed his backpack. Another day, another dollar.
Loading everything up, he walked outside into the brisk Wyoming air. Today was bitter cold.
The car needed scraping. Shit. There was ice and snow all over the the windshield. He loaded his backpack into the back seat, grabbed the snowscraper from the garage, and began clearing the snow off the car.
Typically this would only take a few minutes. But today it was taking longer. The snow had frozen onto the Subaru's windshield, and made the process of clearing the snow difficult.
Inch by inch, he cleared the snow off the car. When it was finally all cleared off, he'd been sweating profusely, and now it felt like even his sweat was freezing.
Opening the car door, he sat in the driver's seat, put the key in the ignition, and tried to crank the car. Nope.
Another dead battery. That was two in a year. Son of a....
He sat in the driver's seat and felt a tear run down his cheek. Was it really worth all of that extra money to move away from Florida all the way to Wyoming? Was it worth uprooting his family just to make a little more?
