My mom never concludes my phone calls before telling me to "keep an eye" on her little grandson who is just 2.5 years old now. She probably thinks, I am a careless mother for both her grandsons have bruises on their knees for they keep falling while running inside and outside home.

While her advice irritated me initially, because I personally think I am a very vigilant mother and make every effort to keep my kids safe but everyone including my husband, who knows my effort, feels I don't do it enough. My mother stated telling me bizarre stories like 3 year old was choked to death after swallowing the bulb of a spring onion, a baby girl was suffocated after she pulled the bedsheet that her mother has spread on the bed over her head and of course of the little boy who got drowned in the bucket of water after his mother left the bathroom door open and the boy went in to play in the water, lost balance and head first into the bucket.
May be she sensed that I was not taking her stories seriously and to attest her claims she started sending me links. I had to believe her because the news was authentic. Kids can do anything if you miss being attentive. My entire day goes in keeping the house baby safe. My son is super naughty. I try keeping things away from his hands reach, but this little cute faced money climbs the window grills and makes every effort to get the things kept on the racks. It was just yesterday that he got hold of scissors that I had kept on the kitchen platform. While I thought that kitchen platform was the safest as he is too short to reach, he found a stool, dragged it to the kitchen climbed it and got his hands on the scissors and while experimenting with its working, he even gave himself a cut on his thumb that hurted badly.
While I was wondering where to keep things so that he doesn't reach them, my mom sent me a link to this news wherein a 4 year old pulled out the bowl of piping hot curry meant for dinner over himself and had severe burns while took his life. I have started keeping the kitchen door locked after reading the news.
Kids are so different these days. They are so innovation in their games that sometimes it is life threatening. Two eyes are just not enough. It just takes few seconds for them to put themselves in trouble if not watched. I don't leave him unattended even if it meant keeping the washroom doors open while doing my business.
