The Backstory
It's been a long week and just a short while ago I realized it was only Monday! Yup, it's going to be one of those kinds of weeks I'm thinking.
While I'm fighting to stay awake for a few more hours, so I don't wake up tomorrow at 3 am, I have been reading some of the Day 115 freewrites. I was having a ball seeing everyone's take on the prompt mason jar.
Now the comments I left were from my heart but not my best work. You see my brain is very tired and with that and the tiny, teeny, space you have to write in, then, for me, go back and fix all the typo's, while the window slider always slides past what you were looking for to correct, was just plain getting on my nerves!
A new Freewriter named has been cracking me up as she has been following the "Shimer" Zombie Saga that
and I have been having a ball with.
Now Mz. has made me chuckle on more than one occasion. The first time being, when she told me she really didn't know much about Zombie's and was I going to clarify a few things for her about zombies when I wrote my next story.
No, No! I know what you are all thinking now and the answer is still No!
I wasn't laughing at her but at myself, because I don't know a darn thing about Zombie's other than they always show them with their skin falling off. Which means I am the least qualified person to explain what a zombie really is but I didn't have the heart to tell her that.
Then every day she would go and find and read the newest zombie story and leave me the greatest comments. You could feel her laughter and the fun that she was having just by following the stories.
She made me proud of being part of something that brought joy to someone.
In turn, she has given me so much joy! but I don't think she realizes that.
Tonight I came across her Day 115 freewrite. I read it. I was sad at how it ended but that happens sometimes when it's not your story to tell but to just read and enjoy.
Her story, she wrote in five minutes, did hit a chord with me. I'm not sure why but it did.
So I did what any good Freewriter does and while leaving her a note asking for her permission to use a character from her last freewrite and me not having a DROP of patients in my soul, I wrote the story below.
I hope scribblingramma ( LOVE her username!!) will like the story I wrote. She might have to read up on zombies when she is done........just saying LOLLLLLLL
Family matters of a different kind
Jim, the lowly janitor, made his way home that night, mason jar in his hand.
Oh how he missed his sister Bea, it had been 7 long years and 4 months since he had seen her last.
Yup, a beer was going to be in order, on this night of nights, so off he went to The Canal to see if he could get Bub to fill his mason jar up with beer and a shot of fireball.
Sigh, that kind of night, but better to go home and drink then stay in the bar. You never knew who you would end up with in the morning. They usually looked a bit like zombies and you always thought to yourself, WHY? and then the proverbial,
"I will never drink again"
as you tried to shove the zombie-like figure of the women out the back door.
Bub was being a great guy tonight. Lucky for Jim, The Canal was hopping! This being the case, Jim didn't have to sit and listen to Bub drone on and on for 40 minutes. Making Bubs time go faster when working in an empty Bar.
Bub just filled up his jar, asking no questions. Jim was on his way home in no time.
Around the corner, Jim saw his house and a smile lite his face for the first time since leaving work.
Wait! his steps slowed as he noticed a few lights on INSIDE his house.
Now, this was his childhood home. Jim had gotten it when Mom and Dad had passed away. Never thinking to change the locks or the window that never closed quite right, but now.........
He was thinking it would have been a very good idea because all his childhood friends knew how to break into his house.
Opening the front door with the same house key he had carried for 30 years, Jim shouted "Hello!" and it echoed through the house.
Hmmmm now what.........
He took a deep breath and OMG what WAS that stench? as he ran to the nearest garbage can.
Unfortunately, this where his now zombie sister, Bea, smoke pouring out of the side of her face, also stood.

Thank you so much for letting me have a bit of fun on a night I am very tired!!
Now I'm off to bed and hope I have made you proud !!
I also hope that everyone else will have a bit of a chuckle from this story too!!
