Maria sat down on the chair next to me. A belt slithered out across my chest pinning me to my chair, the same happened to Maria.
Slug smiled, "so obedient. I have to say, you humans are always so obedient."
"Not all of us," Maria said.
"Ah, yes. Your little friend, where is she? Did one of my Shade's see her off? Or was it my favourite pet spider?" Maria said nothing. "Never mind. It seems your plan to kill me has come a little bit off track." He clicked his finger and a door at the other side of the room slid open. I could hear something lumbering out of it, before I saw what it was.
My first impression was that it looked a little bit like a walrus. Big and strange looking. But, I realised, it was not made of one flesh. It seemed to be composed of many shimmering, and squirming, creatures, all of them fighting and biting each other.
"This little fella," Slug said, "is one of my newest pieces. It feeds on living flesh. It has to be living, apparently. I've tried, believe me, to feed it scraps of already dead things."

I had a comment left on one of my freewrites and I have to say, it made my day!
“Hey I got the book and want to tell you how much I enjoyed your story! Loved the twist at the end… you somehow nearly always manage to produce an unexpected twist... Love the care you take with your characters, intertwining them.”

Voices In The Darkness is now ALSO available as a paperback!
If you want a taster of what is in the book, the video below shows me reading the first 900 words, or so, of my story, The Tell-Tale Dead
