So, I finished my 50k yesterday, and I was so happy about it that I completely forgot to babble like I would have. I mean, I was going to babble today, regardless, but I was just, "YEEEES! Copy! Paste! Post! Gogogo!"
My inspiration for yesterday's final chapter actually came about because I was resting my mind; I was going to do an entry for 's #fiftywords instead and take a small breather. The prompt for the #fiftywords this week is - snowflake - and I ended up writing this depressing thing:
She stands upon the precipice, watching as the snowflakes fall.
An ice wind blows, carrying memories ever lost yet forever cherished.
Was it two years ago, or twenty? Did it even matter anymore?
A deep breath, conjuring confidence, she leaps from the edge.
She and her memories would be one.
First draft of a #fiftywords story. If I kept going, it likely would have been worded a lot differently. But, I paused, and realised that this was just what I needed to begin my final chapter. And so, fingers flying, I had 1000 words done before 7am had even hit! :D Yesterday was a crazy writing day for me, the words just kept coming.
FINAL THOUGHTS!
An Unfortunate Adventure... you know what? I like it. Sososo much needs to be done on it, but the basics are there, and I actually like it. AND! I learned how to cry and write at the same time. A very important skill. Remember to stay hydrated.
It's funny how an idea can deviate so much. This story was originally going to be about some stuck-up millennial girl, stuck in an inescapable world, making enemies left, right and centre, who finds a magical necklace, wears it, and starts becoming the previous owner of the necklace --a powerful witch. Memories not of her own appear, abilities come into power, and she ends up the antagonist of the story, killing the one person in this new world she actually likes. Draven.
That was my original plan in October. Not a true plot-line, but a small idea. As we know, it turned out a lot differently! And even then it wasn't going according to new plans.
In Nessie's gardens, I had every intention of that black thing that shoved her into a hole being a dragon. The prompt I chose was dragon's breath, after all. Then we had the primate prompt and I created that room full of creatures and a giant black bird.
The armband prompt managed to find a permanent place in the story in the form of the thing the Masters and mage-bloods wear! Draven was never a mage when I first started, just a rough hunter guy. Things happen.
Oh, and the flashing lights! ~That pixie orgy. In my revision, that's going to be a lot more... descriptive. But, flashing lights! Lightning storm or pixie orgy? Obviously I was going to go with the pixie orgy! I had so many lurid ideas, but I would rather save that for off-Steemit. There will also be a lot more... activity, so to speak.
The black sphere in Serenithyl's chamber? I didn't know that was going to be a Min Min Light until it lost the black void that encased it. Then it made sense! About mid-way through November, I started crying my heart out because I thought of an "end" to this story. That was Kat returning to the "real world". Now I had an opening for it! One that made sense rather than just "waking up".
Nessie being the antagonist? That was brought on thanks to an idea summoned by one of 's comments! She was originally just going to be a friend; Serenithyl, the true enemy. But then I kept going on about elven/human confict, and ta-da.
Ugh! So many more things! I am so super grateful to the and
and
for their hard work in preparing this challenge for us. A lot of things just would never have come about if not for #FREEWRITEMADNESS!
REVISION THOUGHTS!
When I first started writing this, I was unsure if I would even bother revising and refining it. It was just a random story, proving to myself that I could actually write this much in one month, and most of all, I just wanted to join in with a community challenge.
I can safely say now that I would love to do more with it! Fix up so many confusions and inconsistencies that were inevitable with writing a completely unplanned story. I had a page in my Scrivener that I kept placing notes into and this is what I ended up with:
- Bring the mages and Masters up sooner
- MORE DRAGONS.
- Quint seriously needs another one or two interactions. So does Grissom and T'rese.
- Would add a chapter of self-reflection, where she understands that she's in this new world for good and accepts it. Or just keep gradually adding it in as I go? Either way could work. I'm always unsure of flow.
- So much characterisation is needed. I got lazy and ended up sounding like I was talking to myself. Which is fine. It's a rough first draft. But, characterisation!! More dialogue, too. My bane.
- Oh, important: VOICE. I started out this story in a funny, humourous, light-hearted manner. Everything was a joke. And then I turned serious. I like the funny voice I began with, it's completely unlike my usual style. I'm not sure if I could write the whole damned thing in it though. Will need to make a huge decision between funny and serious. Which will change the story quite a bit either way.
- So much cohesion is necessary. Inevitable as mentioned above.
- A few of the chapters were way too "jumpy" as I leapt from one idea to the next. Hyperactive squirrel-brain. As a result, I'll probably end up with quite a few more chapters and expand upon those mini-ideas, as well as remove quite a few things.
- Possibly add Draven's perspective? I started this determined to only do Kat's POV. Now I'm wondering. Nessie too. Maybe then we'll learn what all the hub-bub was about. (I still have no idea, personally.)
- This writing was very fast-paced in that the events all took place over the course of two-three weeks. In a revised edition, I think a few months is far more fair.
Anywho! In closing off, I would like to give extra special thanks to and
for sticking with me for this whole overly-complex, incoherent story! :D To
for being a super amazing #novmadfan, and to
for letting me email her and sob like crazy about my fictional characters.
I'll be shouting you lovely people some SBI shares in coming days as a super grateful thank you!
This post will be my last November Contribution to #Hayrunners - All liquid rewards for this post will be sent to
upon post payout.
I'm lazy and can't be bothered adding it all up myself, so need to wait 7 more days for SteemWorld to give me the 30 day numbers! But I'm estimating that these #freewritemadness posts collected about: 22-SBD, 17-STEEM, with about 17 more STEEM incoming. Thanks ! I usually feel mildly guilty using steempress to post, not so much when all liquid rewards are going to a good cause. :)
In saying that, not using Steempress for this post because I really only post stories on my site, not chatty things. :)
Thank you for reading! And thank you for being a part of my #freewritemadness! :D
