Tamaralovelace’s eyes grew wide, “So the captain knows something is afoot?”
“Aye he does, and he’s not sitting here flatfooted! My advice is for you to get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow you will need all your wits!”

[Youngstown…on the wharf…8:00am…]
Seaman Geneeverett blew seven loud alerts on his trumpet from the portsdie rail of the Silverton, whilst Seaman Hivebuzz standing next to him began to wave a large Scottish flag vigorously, alerting all in town that the auction was about to begin again!
Lieutenant Gratefuleveryday then pounded the gavel on the podium and and called out, “Thank you so much! Let the auction begin!”
The crowd gathered eagerly just outside of the open area of the podium where just three men stood front and center- the banker, the plantation owner and trader in his long, grey leather coat.
”We have five thousand ounces! Do I here fifty-two?!” Grateful called out.
”Fifty-three!” The plantation owner yelled out with a shake of his fist and sneering at the banker!
“Five thousand, three hundred ounces! Do I hear fifty-four?!”
The usually silent trader suddenly tipped his hat!
“Fife thousand four hundred ounces!”
And so it went, tit for tat for two hours with very long pauses in between bids as comrades and advisors stepped in from time to time to give advice or offer support. Yet despite all of the glee, most were unaware of the growing number of traders in long coats gathering in two groups- one near the boarding ramp of the Silverton and the other intermingling into the crowd in front of the podium.
But one man was aware of the odd change in the crowd. The captain stood high on the bridge at the stern rail and smoked his pipe, his sharp green eyes following the movements and watching the pattern evolve.
“Warrant Officer Bleujay…” He said quietly.
“Aye Sairrr?”
“Roon up eight men who ur guid wi' muskets an' swords an' line them up near th' boardin' ramp. Hav them keep their weapons concealed however...”
“Right away Sairrr!”
And with that Bleujay left the bridge in a hurry, mentally singling-out her choices. (🤼♂️)
[On the east-bank trail along the Niagara…]
Standing Officer Lupega kept a tight grip on Leyla’s hand as he led the way down the forest path. Both were still soaking wet from the night before and Leyla shivered as she walked quickly behind him.
“Lupega…I’m glad you’re here...” Leyla said wistfully as she clasped his hand tighter.
“Thank you very much and welcome! Here we go to our new destination!”
“Yes, but how far? My legs are growing tired…”
“It's nice to see you so to speak!” He replied as he held a long thorny branch out of the way for her to pass, “I’m not sure, but we have to be getting close!”
Just then, far off to the north, the sound of a distant trumpet blast faintly echoed through the forest!
“What was that?!” Leyla asked in a startle tone.
“It must be my ship! It is an honor to be part of the powerful frigate!” Lupega replied with excitement as he quickened his pace.
