Another Friday, another opal! This is a Mexican Fire Opal, also known as Mexican Jelly Opal.
This is one of my favorite opals. The colors put me in a positive state of mind when I look at it and so I have it sitting on my desk next to my computer.
I purchased it and 7 other pieces from a dealer in Quartzite. He has a permanent shop in town and sells minerals from Mexico.
What I really like about this opal specimen is the opal itself is lavender/violet colored. Just outside of the opal is a red layer that accents it.
